What Advice?

If you met someone exactly like yourself …

– same experience
– same resources
– same problems

… what advice would you give them?

My answer:

  • Take your time. Be deliberate with your actions in the moment. If you rush, you cut corners and are not focused or present. If you take your time — do things with intention and care — then your results will always be better in the end.
  • Go outside. Make it a point to commune with nature at least once a day. Even if it is just 5 minutes sitting in the drizzle of a cloudy day, take it. The benefits far outweigh the loss of 5 minutes.
  • Sleep more. All of my poorest decisions were made after the sun went down. Go to bed earlier, sleep longer, and don’t leave any big choices for later in the day.
  • Move your body. Stagnant behavior leads to stagnant thinking. Move your body. 3 pushups on your way to the bathroom. A toe touch while you’re waiting for your coffee to finish brewing. Deep diaphragmatic breaths as you cue up the next Netflix show. It all adds up.

There is a lot more, but I think those take care of 90% of the problems in my life.
