Focused on Focusing

Over the past several weeks I’ve been spending some energy on figuring out a few things.

First, my work.

Specifically, committing to a specific framework for how I work as a web designer, and crafting a plan for what I will do with that in the future.

And extended from my work is figuring out both how that is expressed in my day-to-day job, as well as how I want to explore that as a potential side hustle or business to build in my free time.

Second, my life.

Specifically, personal development projects to build a lifestyle that is present-minded, minimally optimized, and focused on the essentials.

And extended from that is a continued exploration of traveling around the world, learning about cultures and languages, and seeing how to create a nomadic, minimalist, essentialist, location-independent life.

Third, my health.

Specifically, working on fixing long-term chronic health issues that have been plaguing me for a long time.

And extended from my health, is my method of movement and exercise; trying to determine how I’m going to maintain a relationship with wushu, or what other pathways I will embark on to develop my physical capacity.

Websites and blogs

And related to all three of those is how I’m going to use my website(s). I have had a lot of websites, and still have a few:

  • Mark C. Moran <– this website
  • Wushu Adventures <– my wushu-realted website
  • Akamai Websites <– web design-related website
  • Less is Moran <– minimalist lifestyle blog
  • Walk the Pla.net <– travel blog

I’ve reduced all of those down to just the first two websites now. All of my blogs from Less is Moran and Walk the Pla.net have been merged here, and the Akamai Websites domain name expired and I closed that site down.

In the future, this website will be related to the “work” and “life” aspects mentioned above.

Is this confusing for site visitors?

It might seem like a challenge to have both a professional and personal presence on the same website. After all, how does a blog post on minimalist travel and language learning relate to my approaches to fluid intrinsic design with WordPress? Wouldn’t that be confusing to people looking at the website — or for the Google search bots trying to determine what exactly this website is about?

But I suppose that is part of the challenge of web design. And being able to create a website that intuitively allows visitors to know where to find what they are looking for.

And, to be honest, part of me would be willing to fold Wushu Adventures into this whole thing too, so all I have is just one single website that houses all of my various content buckets.

But … that is a musing for another day …
