Today Ruhi and I got a ride to the airport in Austin from Trina and Sheena (Ruhi’s sister and niece).

From Austin we boarded a United Airlines flight to Houston where we enjoyed a relaxing 3 hour layover.

Our flight was delayed about 20 minutes but eventually we were able to get onboard and enjoy a relaxing flight to South America.

It was a 5 hour flight that arrived around 11:45. We got a little sleep but I spent most of the time watching movies in Spanish to help my brain acclimate. Ruhi also made a friend on the plane who is coming to Ecuador to teach English to indigenous peoples in an Ecuadorian Amazon.
After going through customs we grabbed a taxi from the airport ($25 flat rate to get into central Quito — about a 30 minutes drive). We made it into the Paque Calderon area around 1:00 AM where our Airbnb was waiting for us to rest.

A Celebratory Song
While we were traveling I was inspired to write a song about our experiences. So, here is a song I wrote (with the help of A.I.) about our first day. Enjoy!
Lyrics:
It’s Day One, y’all!
And it’s time
It’s time to fly through the sky
To Ecuador! C’mon!
Today is day one (day one)
We are taking off into the sky
Austin airport on a United jet
Among the clouds we fly!
Chorus
Heading down to Ecuador
To Ecuador we go (we go)
Heading to South America
For travel that is slow (so slow)
Vamos rumbo a Ecuador,
¡Nos vamos, sí señor! (sí señor)
Hacia Sudamérica,
A vivir con más sabor. (con amor)
A layover in Houston
Just some time to rest awhile
Snack a snack and drink a drink
Then on a plane for many miles
Ruhi made a friend on the plane
And I watched movies in Español
Tried to get some sleep, but not a lot
After five hours it was time to roll!
Chorus x1
Nos vamos a Ecuador!
Nos vamos! Nos vamos!
Nos vamos a Sud América!
Nos vamos, bravos!
Landed in Quito, the capital city
Uber’s so super and makes good time
We made it! We made it!
To our deluxe apartment in the sky
Chorus x2
